For the first year, Vestechpro is collaborating with the Fashion School of Cégep Marie-Victorin, Coop Les 7 Lives and the Cégep Environment Committee to mark the International Week of Fashion Revolution with a week of awareness raising to circular economy in the fashion sector.
Several activities were organized as early as April 23 from Cégep Marie-Victorin including a conference on the circular economy applied to the fashion industry. This lecture was presented by Marianne-C. Mercier, Responsible for research and development and expert in circular economy at Vestechpro.
As part of this conference, Marianne-C. presented the notions of circular economy while making an inventory of the textile industry and clothing. Participants were able to discover the differences between the current linear supply model of the clothing industry and the cyclical model of the circular economy, which demonstrates that each stage of a product's life cycle has an impact on the environment. . As humans will always have to dress, we must be able to rethink the production chain by optimizing the resources already used. Concrete examples of companies in line with the values of the circular economy were also presented.
Finally, Marianne described the concept of eco-design and proposed solutions for a greener approach in our daily lives, whether we are consumers or future fashion designers !
This year, Fashion Revolution Week was held April 22-28. Speaking more specifically to companies in the fashion industry, this event aims to highlight the need to respect both the work ethic and the environment in the industry. Through this annual event, the organization also aims to make us reflect on our own impact on the quantity and quality of clothing we own.
Marianne C. Mercier explained to students at Cégep Marie-Victorin fashion programs the concept of a circular economy in clothing, as part of Fashion Revolution Week.
As part of this conference, Marianne-C. took the opportunity to introduce students to the concepts of circular economy. First, she took the opportunity to take stock of the current situation of the textile and clothing industry, through the enumeration of the stages of the life cycle of a garment. This led him to compare the linear supply model of the current clothing industry with the cyclical model of the circular economy. She also reminded the company that each stage of a product's life cycle has an impact on the environment. However, the human must always continue to dress daily. Thus, it is necessary to be able to rethink the production chain by optimizing the resources already used thanks to the combination of multiple solutions, a concept at the heart of the circular economy.
Thus, by analyzing each step of the two operating models, she then informed the students present of the environmental issues and strategies involved in each of the processes listed above. Concrete examples of companies in line with the values of the circular economy were also proposed during this presentation, to the pleasure of the students present. Finally, Marianne described the concept of ecodesign to students of the fashion program and offered them a list of solutions to use a more ecological approach in their daily activities. Solutions aimed at consumers as well as future fashion designers were stated during this event.
Vestechpro is proud to have taken part in this event for the next generation and also thanks the fashion school of Cégep Marie-Victorin for organizing these activities!
