Thanks to a grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) College and Community Innovation Program.

In order to continue to respond well to its missions of information, monitoring, technical assistance and applied research, Vestechpro strives to maintain its equipment at the forefront of technology. With this in mind, in March 2019, Vestechpro submitted a grant application for the Applied Research Tools and Instruments (ARTI) endowment which is part of the NSERC Innovation in Colleges and Community program.

Recognizing the merit of Vestechpro's application, NSERC awarded the grant in early August. The subvention will enable the Center to acquire new applied research equipment. These powerful tools will be added to those already present in Vestechpro's laboratories.

These powerful machines will complement those already present in the Vestechpro laboratories. Thanks to its participation, in the summer of 2019, in ITMA, the International Textile and Garment Technology Exhibition, the Center was able to confirm its choice of equipment. Vestechpro has carefully selected them to meet the needs identified while completing projects during the last year or in anticipation of needs related to future projects.

In the new inventory, we can count, among other equipment, a 3D printer, a laser cutting table, and a digital textile printer. Vestechpro will present its new acquisitions in its October newsletter.

Equipment adapted to the needs

Part of the equipment will be dedicated to production process optimization projects by offering specific assembly methods. Another part will focus more specifically on the development of functional and innovative clothing such as adaptive clothing and smart clothing. In addition, certain equipment will be made available to Cégep Marie-Victorin students in an accessible laboratory.

This grant, which supports the desire to extend its equipment fleet, also follows the accession of Vestechpro to the status of Access Center for Technology (CAT). This grant illustrates NSERC's support for apparel research and development, and demonstrates its confidence in Vestechpro's effectiveness in the evolution of the apparel industry.
