Our team was pleased to participate in the launch of the 2026 Responsible Consumption Barometer, presented by the Observatoire de la consommation responsable (OCR) of the l’École des sciences de la gestion of the Université du Québec à Montréal (ESG UQAM). The event was held on June 5, 2026, at Renaissance’s Maurice-Duplessis Impact Center.
Congratulations to Fabien Durif, Madeleine Goubau, as well as Renaissance, RECYC-QUÉBEC, Les Produits du Québec, and everyone who contributed to the 2026 edition of the barometer and to the organization and success of this event!
The program included a presentation of the Barometer’s results and an experiential tour featuring several stations dedicated to textile circularity.
Responsible consumption is a key priority for Vestechpro.
In particular, our center co-edited and published the *Petit guide de la consommation responsable* (A Short Guide to Responsible Consumption) as part of Renaissance’s pilot project to reduce textile waste, carried out with financial support from the City of Montreal.
This year, the Barometer focused specifically on the actions actually taken by consumers and their concrete impact across four major areas of consumption, including clothing.
The results highlight a marked contrast between intentions and actual practices. This reality is particularly evident in the apparel sector. For example, while Quebecers widely adopt certain practices aimed at extending the lifespan of their clothing — 88.4% use them for as long as possible, 77.9% wash them in cold water, and 75.8% donate them when they no longer wear them — their purchasing habits remain largely unchanged when it comes to buying clothing made from recycled materials, secondhand items, or organic fabrics.
These results underscore the importance of continuing efforts in awareness-raising, support, and innovation to promote a transition toward more circular and sustainable consumption models.
