Cirque du Soleil contest: costumes are ready for a second life on stage!

On this April 2024 was held the 2nd selection jury for the winners of the Cirque du Soleil x Vestechpro x Cégep Marie-Victorin Suprarecycling Competition.
Jury members gathered to discover the costumes made by the nine students selected during the 1st jury, in February 2024.

Between these two events, the students redoubled their efforts and ingenuity to give a second life to end-of-life costumes and “dormant” or end-of-life stock made available to them by Cirque du Soleil.

They each benefited from nearly five hours of coaching provided by various members of the Cirque du Soleil and Vestechpro teams to help them design, develop and make their costumes.

The aim of the competition is to mobilize the next generation to create supra-recycled costumes that evoke emotions. Needless to say, the mission was a resounding success!

Indeed, the jury members were blown away by the quality of the costumes presented, both in terms of the reuse of the materials supplied, and the details of the construction and compliance with APTO (for Artistic, Performance, Technical and Operational) standards. It is these latter standards that ensure the aesthetics, comfort, safety and reproducibility of our garments.

Dyeing, upholstering with mechanically recycled fibers, reusing and modifying trimmings are just some of the techniques used by the students to extend the life of the reused and transformed costumes.

The grand unveiling of the nine costumes and the announcement of the three winners will take place at the Collection 2024 fashion show, organized by Cégep Marie-Victorin's School of Fashion on May 22.

We'd like to thank and congratulate the students for their commitment, their ability to create differently, their environmental awareness, and the entire support and organizing team who made this competition possible.
