Vestechpro was mandated by the ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation to carry out a study on investment and adoption of innovative and sustainable practices for the revival of the fashion and apparel industry. The objective was to take stock of the current situation and list current practices in terms of innovation and sustainable development within Quebec companies, and with regard to the best practices put forward elsewhere in North America and in the major centers of influence in the fashion and apparel ecosystem.
The survey conducted over the past year was aimed at all businesses, organizations and institutions in the fashion and apparel sector in Quebec. This study was made possible thanks to the participation of many players in the apparel sector. Over a hundred respondents collaborated including designers, garment and textile manufacturers, retailers and distributors, representatives of related services, industry organizations, and educational institutions.
We hope that this Study will facilitate the development, implementation, and accessibility of assistance programs for businesses. In the longer term, its goal is to orient the fashion and apparel industry towards the development of niches in which it will be able to excel. Ultimately, the study offers recommendations to support innovation management planning in the industry. It serves as a reference tool that can help define the guidelines of a coherent action plan for the revival of a sector at a crossroads.
